1 Peter 2:11 ESV Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. There is a war going on within each of us, and many people are unaware of how intense the battle really is. Some are even completely unaware of the battle and go on living their lives each day as helpless victims of the onslaught that rages inside them. They don’t realize that they are losing the war because they are oblivious to the fact that it is happening at all. The Apostle Peter’s exhortation was for us to recognize the battle that is being waged inside us and to not sit idly by and lose the fight without even engaging the enemy. Peter identifies the aggressor in this battle as “the passions of the flesh.” He says that these “passions” wage war against a […]

Jeremiah 31:3 NASB I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore, I have drawn you with lovingkindness. The First Lover God is the one who first loved—He is the first lover. He loved you before you were born…before any of us were ever born. The letter of 1 John explains that love does not originate from us, but rather from the God who IS love. 1 John 4:10 ESV In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us. We would not know love unless God had extended His love to us. Long before you were born, God was intent on loving you. Before you breathed your first breath, God’s love embraced you. In your mother’s womb, God’s love was there in the darkness. And from the moment you came into the world and let out your first cry, God’s love has been with […]

“Spending too much time on the details rather than the dreams. This is a natural corollary to the mistake of staying busy. When life gets busy and I get invested in all the dirty details flowing my way, I lose site of the dreams that God has for me. Here’s the reality: those dreams usually come when the pace of my life slows enough to do stuff like read, pray, rest, experience new places, and meet new people. Dealing with the dailiness of life doesn’t allow for that. It needs to be planned and prioritized. We need to create space to experience God and all that he has for us.” ~Tony Morgan and Andy Stanley, Killing Cockroaches, 186. Sometimes I feel like I am not sure exactly where I am going in life. When I try to really figure out where God is leading me I tend to get all […]

We often compound our own issues by thinking in terms of what we understand our problem to be. We see the capacity of our own efforts and those around us as amounting to very little in the face of some insurmountable obstacles in life. Why we feel the need to look inward and to conclude that we must somehow figure the problem out on our own is our greatest limiting factor as humans. Many times our problems are exacerbated because we inflate the circumstances in our minds due to the fear of the possibility that we may fail or are helpless to change our course. We tend to conjure up a world of our own surrounding our problem and lose sight of the size of the issue that first beset. We unknowingly disguise our problems as more than they really are and elicit a false sense of alarm due to […]

Grace and peace to you from a fellow truth-seeker, it is about fellowship—fellowship with God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, and fellowship of believers one with another. One vital component of fellowship among God’s people is to converse and meditate upon Scripture and to share and ask each other about it in order to venture deeper into its meaning, relevance, and power to transform our lives. Hebrews 4:12 ESV For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. I pray this blog is a means by which to accomplish that goal and to impart some knowledge of the Scriptures that have been the foundation for my faith. I wish for others to grow and understand greater the richness of God’s revelation in the Bible […]
