~ Lyrics ~
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
Your perfect love is casting out fear
And even when I’m caught in the middle of the storms of this life
I won’t turn back
I know You are near

And I will fear no evil
For my God is with me
And if my God is with me
Whom then shall I fear?
Whom then shall I fear?

Oh no, You never let go
Through the calm and through the storm
Oh no, You never let go
In every high and every low
Oh no, You never let go
Lord, You never let go of me

And I can see a light that is coming for the heart that holds on
A glorious light beyond all compare
And there will be an end to these troubles
But until that day comes
We’ll live to know You here on the earth

However hard we try, however hard we strive, however good we think we can be, we will let go of God at times in our lives. We will not seek him first, we will not hear his voice, we will not do what pleases him. We are but imperfect creatures, tainted with sin and of feeble composition.

We live in a world corrupted and foul that is like a dark valley we must traverse. But we do not traverse alone and we do not traverse by our own strength. Alone we are sure to fail in the journey, but with God we are sure to finish.

We might be struggling through the fiercest tempest of our lives, but it is not our strength that determines our ability to survive the storm. The mortal human can only hold onto a rope for a defined portion of time, even the strongest of men find their breaking point. In the waves of the storm our souls find their limit and we cannot continue fighting the current. Our strength fails and we release the rope we have been desperately fighting to hold on to.

What many believers fail to realize is the effort we give to try and hold on as long as possible is a feeble attempt at trusting in our own pathetic strength. When we realize that we have an unbreakable rope tied around our waist and we are being pulled in by God to the safety of his harbor, we can let his peace and rest rush into our souls.

God will never let us go and if God has us securely tied a rope around us, we know that the struggle is not up to us. We would fail to reach his ship on our own, but God’s strength has no equal and nothing can sever the grip he has on us. Our troubles, fears, trials, temptations, or whatever we face pale against the mighty rock of our God. They are like a breaking wave that meets the shore, being dashed apart and then sent sulking back into the sea.

We can hold onto the hope we have in God and let peace pervade our life knowing that we may be lost at sea at different times throughout our lives, but we are never beyond the reach of the one who holds onto us through it all.
